Legislative Alert: SB 846 Attacks Oregon Tax Kicker
Today Senate Democrats approved Senate Bill 846. This bill is an attack on the Oregon Tax Kicker law, for it would take $15 million of the money that is supposed to be returned back to taxpayers, and instead, use it to fund various programs.
The Tax Kicker law ultimately communicates that tax money comes from individuals. If the state collects over a certain percentage of what it forecasts, the excess is returned back to the people. After all, it is the people’s money.
However, Senate Bill 846 and similar legislation that has been introduced over the years seeks to find ways to prevent this money from going back to you. Instead, certain legislators would prefer that this money fund their agenda.
With approval by the Oregon Senate, the bill will now go to the House.
